What is the turistický poplatek?

The turistický poplatek (local accommodation tax, or místní poplatek z pobytu) is a municipal tax charged per overnight stay in accommodation facilities across the Czech Republic. It is governed by Act No. 565/1990 Coll. on local taxes. The accommodation provider typically collects the tax on behalf of the guest and remits it to the municipality.

Who is exempt:

  • Children under 18 years of age
  • Persons with a disability card (ZTP or ZTP-P)
  • Persons accommodated in healthcare or social facilities
  • Soldiers and police officers on duty

How is the tourist tax calculated?

Nights × Municipal rate × Guests = Tax

Each municipality sets its own rate by ordinance, up to a legal ceiling of CZK 50 per person per night.
